Strive for Success is a program that has been run at Senior Campus, for a number of years, to support and mentor students to maximise their HSC results.
The program seeks to develop and establish effective study skills, motivation through goal setting as well as offering tutoring and mentor support.
Unpacking the task nights
This evening is designed to empower parents in supporting their child through the demands of Stage 6 courses. Teachers, from each faculty, deliver seminars to explain the requirements of the tasks and how they can best support their child’s success.
Strive for Success mentoring program
Mrs Kate Damen is available from Monday – Wednesday in the Strive Room, a silent and independent study space in the Charles Newman Centre for Learning (Library). Her role involves working with Year 12 students who wish to maximise their academic results. This includes providing advice on juggling work/life balance, study techniques, completing assessments in a timely manner and regular check-ins with students to monitor their progress.
If your child requires assistance with organisation or developing study habits, please send them to the Strive room, email kate.damen@det.nsw.edu.au or contact the appropriate Deputy with your concerns.
Strive for Success interviews/Careers Success Coaching
Interviews are conducted for all Year 11 and Year 12 ATAR students with their parents, if possible, to ensure that they are receiving individualised feedback on their progress, that they are supported in improving study habits and they are developing clear post school pathways.
The interviews ensure that students are engaging with Senior campus programs, such as tutoring, to maximise their achievement and allow for a successful transition to University, TAFE or work. Parents are able to provide feedback to the school on programs and assist in shaping future directions.
Literacy Coordinator
Mrs Manti Morse is an experienced teacher of English, whose role is to enhance the writing skills of all Senior Campus students, across all subject areas.
As part of her role, she will be running workshops with students to further develop their writing abilities to emphasise knowledge of subject/content. She is also working one-on-one with students to ensure that they are understanding the question, clearly linking their ideas to the question and assisting with the drafting and editing process.
Mrs Morse is available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, please email manti.morse2@det.nsw.edu.au if you would like to book in a time to meet.
Tutoring
There is an extensive tutoring program for all students at Senior Campus.
Throughout the term, students can access teachers before and after school as well as during study periods and on Tuesday afternoons.
During the holidays, teachers offer on-site tutoring for HSC students and students wishing to complete their major works.
Jodi Howard is available in the library every day. She runs small group study sessions with an English focus however, also provides curriculum support and assists students in completing their assessment tasks. Study guides and resources are also available for student use.
Tutoring timetables are updated each term and are available via the Parent Portal, Student Email and in the Charles Newman Centre for Learning (Library).
Elevate Education seminars
Students attend 1 hour seminars run by Elevate Education to empower them with the knowledge and tools to improve their approaches to study.
The seminars are designed to equip students with resources to find a balance between school and other commitments; maximise their study and get the most out of their time in class. Resources are available online via the
Elevate website.
Edrolo
Edrolo offers a range of comprehensive and engaging video lectures, worked examples from past exams and interactive quizzes which can be used to clarify and revise the content that teachers cover in the classroom. When students are at various levels of understanding, Edrolo can really help to ensure that students do their best during these vital years.
All Dubbo College Senior Campus students receive access to Edrolo, via a link in their school email, at the beginning of the academic year. If you have not yet activated your account, please do so here.
