Girls Academies

The Girls Academy program was launched at Dubbo College in 2017 and now has three separate Academies, one at each of our campuses.

Girls Academy has been empowering girls and changing communities since 2004. The in-school mentoring and leadership program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls is the largest of its kind in the country.

The full-time program is community led and runs within the school system. The Girls Academy staff identify and eliminate the barriers preventing girls from completing their education and reaching their full potential.

Girls Academy is centred around an Academy room that acts as a sanctuary and support centre for the girls before, during and after school. Academy staff provide individual mentoring and support, as well as cultural connection, empowerment, sports and other extracurricular activities.

Girls Academy provides much-needed support to enable the students to achieve Girls Academy’s Big 4 objectives:

·         Increase school attendance

·         Advance academic and personal achievement

·         Improve Year 12 graduation rates

·         Facilitate post-school transitions.

Girls Academy has a clear purpose — develop a girl, change a community.
