Girls Academies

The Girls' Academy Program works within the school system to drive community-led solutions aimed at reducing the barriers preventing Indigenous girls from completing their education and reaching their full potential.

Our mission put simply is to "develop a girl - change a community".

Program activities are designed with an emphasis on the ‘Big 4' objectives to:

  1. Increase school attendance
  2. Advance academic and personal achievement
  3. Improve Year 12 graduation rates, and
  4. Facilitate post-school transition planning

We aim to abolish the attitude of low educational expectations held by many Indigenous students. We want Indigenous girls to be empowered and motivated to achieve educational success, which in turn results in improved outcomes for their health & nutrition, life expectancy, levels of substance abuse, incarceration levels and employment opportunities.

Dubbo College has a Girls' Academy at each campus.  More information can be found on the Girls Academy website.
