Photography students study gallery exhibition

A photography exhibition at the Western Plains Cultural Centre was the subject of a recent visit by students from Dubbo College Senior Campus.

Louise Hawson's 52 Suburbs Around the World, a travelling exhibition from Sydney Living Museums, focuses on the unusual and lesser known neighbourhoods of famous cities around the world.

Dubbo College photography teacher Lyndal Powderly said her Year 11 class studied the exhibition as part of a major assessment task for the term.

"My students have been asked to write a feature article for a weekend newspaper looking at one particular exhibition," Mrs Powderly said.

"While they can't write about this exhibition, it was important to review it as part of the learning process, before they choose another exhibition to write about.

"Louise Hawson's work is a great expression of cultural diversity and my students were able to assess the various techniques she has used to get her message across.

"Effectively she has undertaken a cultural comparison which shows similarities and differences throughout the world and helps us to establish our own place in it."
