Carlo's South Dubbo IGA is the latest local business to join Dubbo College South Campus in a new community partnership program. The store presented the school with a cheque for $650 this week, with the money going to the P&C for a range of projects.
Carlo's IGA joins with Early Rise Bakery, Brennan's Mitre 10, Subway Orana Mall, Barbeques Galore, Steven Gower Carpet Cleaning, Crampton's Carpets and Austbrokers RIS in the program, which encourages businesses to commit to a three-year donation program of $330 per year.
The support program is the brainchild of South Campus P&C president Gerard Crampton, who said it was no longer feasible to rely solely on traditional fund-raising activities.
"Activities like cake stalls, pie drives and barbecues have been a staple in the area of fund-raising for many years and while they will continue to be a revenue source in the future, we are aiming to broaden our revenue base," he said.
"We are encouraging local businesses to support us and help guarantee funding for three-years, because this will allow us to plan more effectively for the future.
"By making this commitment, local businesses will be able to contribute in a meaningful way to enrich our school and its culture.
"The South Campus P&C has recently been involved in purchasing a water refill station for students to help minimise the disposal of plastic water bottles.
"We have also contributed to the music faculty by assisting with the purchase of a vibraphone to help in the development of students' music appreciation."
Dubbo College South Campus principal Darryl Thompson said the new community partnership program was a great initiative.
"We are very grateful to all the businesses that have come on board and we look forward to an ongoing relationship in the future development of South Campus."
