Dubbo College Delroy Campus is a land of opportunity, filled with great potential in its student body. That’s the view of Delroy principal Debbie Head, who spoke to students, teachers, parents and friends of the school during the annual presentation night this week.

“At Dubbo College we focus on the holistic development of students in the areas of academic, creative and performing arts, cultural, sporting and wellbeing, so students flourish and are valued,” Mrs Head said.

“We focus on developing strong core values where our students learn to care about others, develop a strong sense of social justice, care for the environment and develop personal resilience.”

Mrs Head discussed achievements at Delroy Campus in 2018, highlighting significant gains in NAPLAN results for the school’s Year 9 Aboriginal cohort.

She went on to thank the Clontarf Academy, the Girls’ Academy and teaching and administration staff, with a special thanks and a bunch of flowers reserved for former AECG president Aunty Pat Doolan.

Academic, AECG, special service and sports awards were presented to students during the school’s annual presentation ceremony, compered by school captains Charlotte and Harrison Crowfoot.

Dux awards went to Jessica Woods in Year 7, John Toohey in Year 8, Nathaniel Irvine in Year 9 and Simon Ramirez in Year 10.

Special education academic awards were presented to Cody Riley, Blake Kassell, Nathan Morton, Adam Wilson, Natalie Bruce, Thomas Proberts, Tyson Power, Steve Hart, Shelby Saffy and Joel Wardman.

Special service awards, Rawdon Middleton VC scholarships, Mallison Foundation scholarships and the Australian Defence Force Long Tan award were all presented during the night.

The inaugural Dubbo West Rotary community service award was presented to Isabelle Furney, while John Toohey and Zac Bligh received the William Ferguson medal, acknowledging the life and career of the esteemed civil rights leader.

Sports awards were also presented to students in Years 7 to 10, culminating in the presentation of several special awards. The NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge medal went to Bianca Clissold; the Sports Organiser award was presented to Jazmyn Newby; and the champion house was Parayong, collected by house captain Bailey Ross.

Delroy Campus sportswoman of the year went to Year 9 student Kaitlyn Hall, while fellow Year 9 student Bayden Powell was awarded sportsman of the year.

Kaitlyn won third place in the NSW CHS tennis championships, represented western CHS and Dubbo College in tennis, including the Ken Eggleton Cup, played hockey in Serisier Cup and represented Delroy Campus in hockey, athletics and cross-country.

Bayden was a western region representative for rugby league, played rugby league in the Ken Eggleton Cup and Serisier Cup, where he also played basketball and was a school representative for rugby league and basketball.

Special guest speaker at the Delroy Campus presentation night was former Delroy Campus and Senior Campus school captain Daniel Ramirez, who graduated from Year 12 this year.

A number of performances were staged at intervals during the presentation, with the Delroy band and choir, led by music teacher Brooke Tonks, winning many new fans based on their outstanding performance.
