Eight student musicians set for European tour

Eight Dubbo College student musicians will travel to Europe in January as part of the West of the Divide band and vocal tour. The students include (back row) Tara Williamson (clarinet), Jessica hall (trombone), Johnathon Woods (voice), Robin Hall (tuba) and front row Jessica Woods (voice), Sarah Hall (trumpet), Sarah Williamson (clarinet) and Simon Ramirez (trombone).

A group of talented student musicians from Dubbo College will travel to Europe in January to perform at Vatican City in Rome, the Postojna Caves in Slovenia and St Marks Bassilica in Venice.

The group, which includes Tara Williamson, Jessica Hall, Johnathon Woods, Robin Hall, Jessica Woods, Sarah Hall, Sarah Williamson and Simon Ramirez, forms part of the fourth annual West of the Divide band and vocal tour. It incorporates 72 students from 33 primary, high and central schools west of the Blue Mountains.

The Dubbo College students and their colleagues will undertake scheduled performances in Rome, Florence, Venice, Bled and Zagreb.

They will perform at some amazing venues and experience workshops with international maestros, as well as visiting schools and Australian embassies in Rome and Zagreb.

The tour of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia will be supported by teachers and music tutors who are professional musicians.

Dubbo College music teacher and band coordinator Michelle O’Callaghan said the European tour would afford the musicians and singers an outstanding opportunity to further their knowledge and improve their skills.

“We are incredibly proud that eight of our students have been selected for this exciting opportunity,” Ms O’Callaghan said.

“The students have all worked hard to become proficient on their instruments and will be given the opportunity to work with professional musicians, tutors and conductors to further develop their skills.

“On top of this the students will perform in places like the Vatican!

“We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing of their adventures, and sharing their experiences with college music students.”
