Student art works displayed by local business

Dubbo College art students will have their art works exhibited in four separate exhibitions during the next 12 weeks at Suncorp Bank's Dubbo store in Wingewarra Street.

The initial exhibition of pop art and street art by Year 8 students from Delroy Campus was officially launched by Dubbo mayor Ben Shields last week, with college students and staff on hand.

Curated by Delroy Campus art teacher Jessica Sinclair, the exhibition encompasses two terms of work by Year 8.

"I am so proud of the works these students have produced during the past two terms and it is wonderful to see the works in a very public space such as this," Ms Sinclair said.

"Students have incredible pride in their work and they feel very privileged to be able to share their art with the Dubbo community.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Suncorp for this opportunity – it means a lot to our school and particularly our students.

"Also on display during the next three months will be Year 10 photography and Year 9 and 10 visual art works."

Mayor Ben Shields said Suncorp's move to display the art works of local students showed great community spirit.

"I think it's a clever commercial move because it will bring new customers into Suncorp," he said.

"It gives the students the important message that they and their work are valued in the community, and it engenders a sense of belonging for these students.

"The art works are really outstanding and you can readily see the display from the street and I'm sure Suncorp will win points for this initiative."

Suncorp Bank store manager Nathan Mordue said the current exhibition had already drawn considerable interest from the community.

"It is wonderful to be able to support local students and provide an exhibition space outside the school," he said.

"We really admire the work of the students and we are very much looking forward to the following three exhibitions during the next 12 weeks."
